AI and Authorship Policy
As a member - in the near FUTURE - of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the UrNammu Journal of Business, Accounting and Technology Management (UJBATM) adheres to COPE’s recommendations regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and Large Language Models (LLMs) in scholarly publishing.
AI and Authorship
The UJBATM firmly states that AI tools, including ChatGPT and similar LLMs, cannot be listed as authors on any manuscript. AI systems lack the capacity for independent accountability and cannot take responsibility for key aspects of research such as:
• Designing and validating methodologies
• Interpreting results and drawing conclusions
• Addressing ethical considerations
• Assuming accountability for the published work
As such, these tools should be regarded as aids in the research process—not contributors warranting authorship.
Permitted Use of AI Tools
The UJBATM permits limited use of AI and automated tools under the following conditions:
• Disclosure Requirement: Authors must explicitly declare any use of AI or LLMs in the manuscript preparation (e.g., for language editing or summarization). This disclosure should appear in the "Acknowledgements" or a designated section of the manuscript.
• Usage Threshold: The contribution of AI tools to the manuscript content must not exceed 20%.
• Transparency: UJBATM reserves the right to request detailed clarification from authors regarding the extent and nature of AI usage.
• Non-Byline Policy: AI or LLM tools must not be credited as authors or co-authors under any circumstances.
AI Use in Peer Review
The UJBATM strictly prohibits the use of AI or LLM tools by reviewers when evaluating manuscripts or preparing feedback. Reviews must be based solely on human academic judgment to ensure fairness, confidentiality, and integrity.
Ongoing Ethical Oversight
The UJBATM remains vigilant about the evolving role of AI in scholarly publishing and is committed to updating its policies in accordance with best practices and ethical standards.
